Breasts

All plastic surgery on breast including enlargement, reduction or lifting are restricted by the age of the patient and other past conditions e.g. after giving birth and breastfeeding or as a result of a significant weight loss.

Breast enlargement means increasing the size of small or underdeveloped breasts. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts about 1.5 h. The incision necessary to insert implants may be placed under the breast, immediately above the skin fold, around the lower edge of the areola (dark skin surrounding the nipple) or in the armpit. A pocket is formed either underneath the breast tissue or the breast muscle. The plastic surgeon discusses the technique with the patient, taking into account her anatomical structure as well as individual expectations.

Breast reduction is mostly recommended for the women with large, flabby breasts, which can make everyday, active life very difficult. They may also cause back pain, deformities of the vertebral column and shoulders, skin rash and attrition sites under the breast. The operation has the reason to bring pain relief and improve the shape of the breast. The surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia. During the procedure the excess breast and skin tissue is removed, the nipples and the areola are moved and the remaining tissue is reshaped.

Breast lifting operation contain lifting up and shaping pendulous breast which lost the firming and shape by giving birth and breastfeeding or as a result of a significant weight loss. If there is only a small amount of breast tissue present, implants can be inserted during the surgery to improve size at the same time. You may have drainage tubes that will be removed before you go home. If stitches need to be removed, this will take place 7 days later, in the clinic. You will need to stay in hospital for 1-2 nights and take up to two weeks off work. To keep the breasts supported, you will be asked to wear a sports bra, day and night for 6-12 weeks.

After all type of breast operation the area is swollen and bruised, but this condition is resolved with time. The patient should wear the supporting bra for several weeks. Transient loss of sensation in the breasts and nipples may be experienced. In this period the patient should restrain from any forceful activities, especially those requiring lifting arms, for about 2 - 3 weeks. Women may return to work 1 - 2 weeks after the operation, if only it is not manual work.

Face lifting

A Face Lift involves the skilful removal of excess facial skin from the neck, chin and cheek areas under General Anaesthetic. The plastic surgeon releases the patient's skin from underlying tissue and removes its excess. In some cases deeper lying tissues may also require remodeling to obtain the most juvenile facial features. If it is necessary, small incisions are performed under the chin in order to remove accumulated fat and even out the skin on the neck that has been affected by ageing.

After the operation you may experience bruising and swelling around the area. This may be accompanied by a ‘tight’ feeling and numbness. You will be advised to keep all head movements to a minimum during these early days, to avoid straining the stitches. As the skin remains more sensitive for several months, everyday protection against sunlight is necessary as well as creams containing potent UV sunshields. At between 7 and 14 days after the operation the stitches and clips, if used, will be removed and at this time you will be able to resume your normal day-to-day activities with few exceptions.

Eyelid surgery

Eyelid surgery is recommended to those patients whose eyes lose skin. Surplus fatty tissue and relaxed muscle in the eyelids are removed to tighten the skin and leave a flatter, more youthful appearance. Often carried out as a day case procedure, upper and lower lids can be operated on either together or separately.

The skin is removed from the upper or lower eyelid through incisions, which are hidden in the natural angle of the eyelids or just below the line of the eyelashes (depend of type of operation). The incision extends slightly above the external angle of the eye, where it is practically invisible among mimic creases and other skin folds at the corners of the eyes. If the eyelid problem is accompanied by dropping eyebrows, the plastic surgeon may recommend eyebrow lifting. Stitches are removed between 5-7 days post operatively and a pair of dark glasses will help to hide the bruising and swelling during this recovery period. Most people return to work between 7 and 14 days after surgery.

Ears correction

This operation involves removing skin and reshaping cartilage from behind the ears. The ears are then stitched into the new position with the incision marks cleverly concealed in the natural crease behind the ear. The procedure can be carried out in infiltration analgesia in adults and in general anaesthesia in children. You will need to wear bandages around your ears for about 7-14 days at which time any stitches will be removed.

Liposuction

Liposuction is the removal of excess fatty tissue to reshape the body. The excess of adipose cells is removed through minimal incisions in the skin at sites that are hardly visible using canellas with characteristic end-pieces. This type of operation can be carried out to most areas of the body: - In women, commonly the abdomen, hips, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, knees and double chin. In men, the abdomen, flanks (‘love handles’), chest (male breast) and double chin.

Liposuction is usually performed under local anaesthesia (with the use of hypnotic agents), regional or general anaesthesia depending on surgeon’s decision. The surgeon will choose the best and the safest surgical modality depending on individual circumstances. Usually very small incision is used to insert the cannel to extract the fat and sometimes this is closed with a stitch. You will be required to wear a support garment for up to 6 weeks post-operatively. There is often heavy bruising and swelling to the areas treated and the results may take many weeks to be apparent. It is advisable to take 1-2 weeks off work, depending on the nature of your job.

Nose reshaping

This type of surgery should not be performed until the patient is 16 years of age, when the nose has almost completely developed but if only the patient is in a good general condition, there are no upper age limits for changing the shape of the nose.

The bone structure of the nose can be related to that of a frame tent, if we wish to reduce the height of the “ridge”, then the sides must be also reduced and brought together to create a new ridge. This will not affect the skin surface which will shrink back on the new frame very well.

The operation will be carried out under a General Anaesthetic and take approximately 2 hours. You will need to stay in hospital for 1 night and wear a splint over your nose for 7-10 days. It is advisable to refrain from working for a 10-day period and avoid contact/impact sports for 3-6 months. Your surgeon will advise you of this. There will be numbness, bruising and swelling after the surgery. Numbness and swelling will gradually resolve but may take several months. Bruising will be greatly reduced by the time you return to work at 10-14 days.

Laser therapy

Laser skin therapy covers a variety of corrective treatments that can be perform to help with specific skin conditions. Can solve most skin problems including acne and acne scarring, facial red veins, pigmentation and birthmarks. This treatment is fairley painless and gives permanet results. The laser beam interacts with discoloured skin only. During laser therapy, our specialist will use a hand-held laser to remove the top layer of skin. Laser wrinkle removal therapy can improve your complexion by reducing the appearance of wrinkles. There’s no damage to surrounding tissue.

After your wrinkle removal treatment, you will be given careful instructions on how to care for your skin while it heals itself. It is very important to avoid sun exposure by wearing sunblock for six months after treatment. If not, you can end up with blotchy, evenly tanned skin, particularly if you have olive, brown or black skin. Your skin may be swollen and weepy for a few days, and red for several weeks after treatment.
